Jordanian Transportation


Jordan's only port, Aqaba



  1. Water Transportation
    • The only major ocean port in Jordan is in Aqaba attached to the Red Sea. It is a medium sized port.
  2. Land Transportation
    • The Aqaba railway corporation is the only current freight railway in Jordan. It runs phosphate from Ma'an to the port of Aqaba. The Jordanian government recently acquired land to build more train ways. One connecting Jordan to the Iraqi border is under plans for construction
    • There is only one passenger train in Jordan which takes people from Amman, Jordan to Damascus, Syria which is a popular vacation spot among Jordanians.
    •  As of 2001, Jordan had about 4971 miles of paved highways. Three main highways are Highway 15 (Desert Highway) which connects Amman to the port city of Aqaba, Highway 65 (King's Highway) which connects Irbid in the northern region to Aqaba, and Jordan Highway: encircles the city of Amman and connects it to Jerash and Irbid.
  3. Air Transportation
    • There are two international airports in Jordan. The Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and the King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba.
    •  There are 10 other airports in Jordan. The Amman Civil Airport in Amman, the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Azraq, the H 4 in Assab, the Muwaffag Salti air base in Azraq, the Prince Hasan airport in Dafyanah, the King Hussein air base in Mafraq and four unpaved and unnamed airways.
