The World is sPiKy

In the article, "The World is Spiky" by Richard Florida, Florida discusses his view on the effects of globalization. A. The author sees globalization not as a economic leveling, where any area in the world has equal opportunity and ability to participate in the global market, but as an economic spiking. This is where large cities have an advantage in the global market, causing more people to flock to those cities which gives those cities a larger advantage. Thus the cycle repeats. B. This relates to the central place theory because as cities get larger, they have more specialized economic practices which obtains more money and economic prosperity. While people who argue for economic leveling would say that any area has an advantage in the global market, Florida would argue that a business started in a hamlet would have much less success than a business started in a large metropolitan area. C. Unfortunately, I do not have any foreign travel plans, so, I do not have a city to discuss!
